20 Things You Didn't Know About Batman & Robin
6. It Made Less Money At The Box Office Than Bean
When you think of Batman movies, you tend to think of them earning hundreds of millions of dollars at the box office, billions in the case of The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises, given the character's position as a pop culture icon and the star of what has been one of Hollywood's most bankable franchises for over 30 years.
That wasn't the case in 1997, as Batman & Robin not only earned almost $100m less at the box office than predecessor Batman Forever, but was only the fifteenth highest-grossing movie of the year globally, where it lagged comfortably behind the cinematic debut of Mr. Bean.
That's right, Bean's $251.2m global haul saw Rowan Atkinson's comic creation easily outpace Batman & Robin's $238.2m, in what was a damning indictment of the Caped Crusader's startling fall from grace.
