If you get on the wrong side of Donald Trump, you're usually doing something right. The President of the USA, then merely an insanely rich businessman and reality TV-star, was not a fan of Django when it came out and took every opportunity he could to take digs at the movie. His biggest gripe with the film was how racist it was;

Another Trump tirade against Django could be seen on Fox News when he phoned in to critique that year's Oscars.

Spike Lee, whose movies have also been called racist by Trump, criticised Django for its 'disrespectful' telling of a troubling period of American history. In a tweet that was later deleted, he wrote: “American Slavery Was Not A Sergio Leone Spaghetti Western. It Was A Holocaust. My Ancestors Are Slaves. Stolen From Africa. I Will Honor Them.”
