20 Things You Didn't Know About JFK
9. Stone Vs. The Media
Before the film was even released, Stone was taking criticism from all angles. This was largely due to a leaked copy of an early draft of the script coming to public attention. While filming, a vicious article entitled "On Set in Wonderland" ran in the Chicago Tribune, blasting the film for historical inaccuracies. Other correspondents chimed in just as harshly, with one calling the film an "insult to the intelligence". He went on the defensive, writing and responding to op-eds and letters to the editor.
The collection of op-eds was published along with the final draft of the script in book form, but Stone said that the Wonderland piece, hurt Stone the most, as the author had stolen the first draft.
In the end, though, Richard Corliss of Time Magazine put it best:
"Whatever one's suspicions about its use or abuse of the evidence, JFK is a knockout."
