5. It Launched Its Own Awards Show In 2013

Remember this? In early 2013, Netflix launched its own awards show called The Flixies, which were designed to honour "the ways you really watch Netflix."

The fan-voted awards featured quirky categories like Best Hangover Cure and Best Tantrum Tamer. It wasn't meant to be taken seriously and was just a bit of fun in order to raise user engagement, but it was a neat idea regardless - users could even submit their own categories, if they thought of a good one.

Unfortunately though, The Flixies didn't return for a second year, and with Netflix now winning the most prestigious awards Hollywood has to offer, it doesn't seem likely that they'll return to something like this.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
