1. What Genre Is The Movie?

No Country For Old Men has been almost unanimously praised by fans and critics alike, although there has been some debate as to what genre the movie comes under, even amongst the people involved in making the film.

Tommy Lee Jones described it as both a horror and a comedy, although it probably comes under thriller rather than horror and is arguably one of the least comedic films of the Coens brothers varied catalogue of movies.

Joel and Ethan themselves have gone on record to describe No Country For Old Men as the closest they will ever come to making an action movie. But it was probably Kelly MacDonald who put it best when she described it as a ‘Coen brothers film’.

The Coen brothers have a varied and eclectic filmography and they like to explore multiple genres within each film. It’s pretty pointless to try and place No Country For Old Men into one specific genre, it’s better to simply describe it as a Coen brothers’ movie and one of their best pieces of work to date.
