Whether to convince them or convince himself, he said he was going to sit across from her, chew with his mouth closed, laugh at her jokes, and take her home. At the time he didn’t quite realise just how much of a deal would eventually be made about one joke.

In Mia’s failed pilot, Fox Force Five, the plan was for her to tell a corny joke in every episode, but as it never got picked up she only had one in her arsenal. She was too shy to tell it straight away, but ultimately after going through what they went through together she told Vincent anyway.

The joke was truly terrible. But even so, even after everything that happened that night, Vincent managed to squeak out the tiniest, most pathetic chuckle. Turns out he still kept his word to laugh.
