7. Daniel Craig - Casino Royale

Casino Royale Daniel Craig
Sony Pictures Releasing

Daniel Craig's James Bond is a similar category to Michael Keaton's Batman. For many, he's the best version of the character but before his debut, hardly anyone was happy with his casting. There was even a website called Danielcraigisnotbond.com.

Craig is blonde, has blue eyes and is shorter than other versions of the character; in short, he didn't meet Ian Fleming's original description of Bond being 'Tall, dark and handsome', at least not the first two parts of that description. Furthermore, Craig didn't have much experience in the action genre, with most of his prior roles being dramatic ones on both the big and small screen.

Still, Craig silenced all of the naysayers within the first hour of Casino Royale, his first outing. He was magnificent as a more human, vulnerable 007 yet he still delivered the mixture of rage, charm and dark humour that makes the character so iconic. His successor is currently being selected and whoever it ends up being, it's important to give them a fair chance and not to judge until we've seen them in action. Just look at how well Craig ended up doing.
