20 Upcoming Movie Sequels That Could Be HUGE Improvements
5. Spider-Man: Brand New Day
Spider-Man: No Way Home was a phenomenal success when it released in 2021, and while the film was generally well-received by both critics and fans, it's also fair to say that its reputation took a hit once the dew-eyed honeymoon period wore off.
Yes, No Way Home is an entertaining exercise in unite-the-Spideys fan service, but on a narrative level it's an absolute mess, the visual direction is shaky throughout - likely a result of the film's compressed production schedule - and it doesn't really hold up much on repeat viewings.
So it's a relief to hear that the currently-shooting Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to be a more grounded Spider-Man movie where Peter (Tom Holland) deals with street-level crime across New York City.
Producer Kevin Feige has confirmed that the sequel will be less about "world-ending events" - a relief for anyone who found the multiversal mayhem of No Way Home exhaustingly messy.
There's something to be said for going back to the basics, especially after years of overcooked multiversal nonsense in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
