20 Upcoming Movie Sequels That Need To End Their Franchises
15. Cars 3
The Franchise: Pixar's series of animated movies, which to date have grossed $1.38 billion at the box office, but more impressively, grossed $8 billion in merchandise within five years of its 2007 release (which is pretty much why Cars 2 was made). Sequel Status: Cars 3 has been confirmed to be in production by Pixar, but little is known about it beyond that. Don't expect it to hit cinemas until 2017-2018. Why It Needs To Be The Last One: The two Cars movies are the worst-reviewed films in Pixar's back catalogue, pretty much because they were made solely to sell toys and lunchboxes. The second movie was incredibly bland and didn't really suggest that a third film was in any way needed (except for financial reasons, of course). How Likely Is It?: With a fourth Toy Story movie on the way, and given how much toy money the Cars series prints annually, don't expect Cars 3 to be the graceful end to an unlikely and rather unnecessary series. 3/10.
