The world was shocked when Netflix announced that they'd shelled out an eye-watering $469 million for the rights to not one but two sequels to Rian Johnson's hit murder-mystery romp Knives Out.

The success of the original, which was a major box office smash in 2019 and received a Best Original Screenplay Oscar nomination, generated a major bidding war for the sequel, which wrapped shooting last summer.

Daniel Craig is returning to play southern-fried detective Benoit Blanc alongside an entirely new ensemble cast, including Dave Bautista, Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Kate Hudson, Jessica Henwick, and Ethan Hawke.

That's... quite the line-up, and if Johnson can bottle even a fraction of the original's devious energy, then this should be a home run for Netflix. And better yet, without the need to worry about box office, the third film is already guaranteed to happen.

Knives Out 2 is rumoured for a film festival run near the end of the year before releasing on Netflix, and it's likely that Johnson will hit the ground running on a third film soon thereafter.
