Escape from Spiderhead is centered around two convicts (Miles Teller and Jurnee Smollett) who are incarcerated in a facility where they can reduce their prison sentences by partaking in experiments involving emotion-altering drugs. Chris Hemsworth co-stars as the villainous overseer, Abnesti.

Saunders' short story is a dense and emotionally charged slice of dystopian sci-fi, and so it perhaps makes sense that it ended up at Netflix rather than a traditional theatrically-minded studio, where riskier blockbuster projects have had wildly mixed results as of late.

Given the clear talent involved, including Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, it's easy to be optimistic about this one.
