20 Well-Known Movie "Facts" That Are Actually Bulls**t

6. There's A Dead Midget Visible In The Background Of One Scene - The Wizard Of Oz

Here's a classic movie "fact" that just won't die. After all, it's near on impossible to sit down to a viewing of classic musical The Wizard Of Oz without some smartass pointing out the fact that there's a dead midget visible in the background of one of the shots. The stories (and there are many of them) surrounding this "fact" vary depending on whoever tells it, but generally speaking it tends to outline a depressed member of the cast who one day decided that enough was enough and opted to go out the only way he knew how: in the background of a shot in The Wizard of Oz. The shot in question can be glimpsed at the end of the Tinman woods sequence; it supposedly shows a hanging. Nobody bothers to ponder the many variables that would likely have make this incident impossible because that's no fun, apparently. There's no truth in it at all: that shadow is a bird taking flight. Which is obvious if you, oh, watched the movie rather than taking a still image.
