20 Worst Movies Of 2013

12. The Host

The Host, the novel of which was written by Twilight author Stephenie Meyer, was presumably supposed to make a killing at the box office, given its loose relation to that other mammoth franchise, and yet... nobody went to see it. Hey, maybe the movie-going masses are a whole lot smarter than we give them credit for (on occasion). Regardless of its box office juice, though, The Host is a dismal and poorly-made adaptation - that rare movie firing on absolutely no cylinders. The plot is set in a world where aliens are overtaking the bodies of human beings. Saoirse Ronan stars as somebody who is overtaken by one of these things, but - and here's the worst bit - because she's so in love with her boyfriend (that's right - "so in love"), the aliens can't seems to control her. Would it be possible to conjure up a more Stephenie Meyer-esque plot at gunpoint? The future as depicted here is lame in that "everything is silver" way; the script is plainly awful.
