20 Worst Movies Of 2017 (So Far)
17. Resident Evil: The Final Chapter
You could be forgiven for thinking that nobody has actually cared about the Resident Evil films for a long time, but the preposterous financial performance of each of the last increasingly poor sequels suggests there's still very much an audience to be fed scraps to.
Luckily, they've already been conditioned into accepting over-blown mediocrity, because that's all that's on the menu in The Final Chapter, which cost just $40m to make and which has made a comparatively huge $300m on it. That'd usually spell another sequel, but thanks to that title, that was deemed impossible and now we all get to watch six other RE movies in a rebooted series instead. What luck!
The Final Chapter itself is very much more of the same: it's frenetic and scatter-brained and if you can engage with any of the characters through the horribly distracting CGI, you'll come to quickly realise that the bluster is also hiding what is fundamentally a very boring film.
