6. Winchester

When you see Helen Mirren's name attached to anything, you can usually be assured of a pretty high base-level of quality, but this lifeless horror proves that even the true greats are capable of serious misfires now and then.

The story premise here is actually pretty great: Mirren plays the heiress to the Winchester gun empire, who builds a huge mansion to house the ghosts of those killed by the weapons her family has made. But an idea is only as good as its execution and that's where this all falls apart.

The final product wastes its cast and ideas to offer up a series of dull cliches bereft of atmosphere, too serious for its own good and not as scary as it ought to have been. What IS scary, however, is Mirren's attempt at a Southern American accent.
