14. Midnight Sun

It might not have sprung forth from his well-worn pen, but this adaptation of the Japanese rom-dram of the same name feels like it could have been made from a Nicholas Sparks novel. It's cringingly saccharine, touched by death and as obvious as a heart-shaped brick to the throat.

The leads - Bella Thorne and Patrick Schwarzenegger - gamely try and cast off the shackles of a movie trying so obviously to make its audience believe it is a Sparks movie and they do have bearable comedy, but the material is so coated in cheese that it's hard to care.

It probably appealed to the teen audience it so clearly aims to delight, but it's horribly manipulative, horribly rote and mostly just horrible.
