20 Worst Movies Of 2021 (So Far)
16. Blithe Spirit
Few were asking for another big screen adaptation of Noël Coward's classic 1941 play Blithe Spirit, and to that end this new take lives down to expectations.
Though cannily casting the likes of Judi Dench, Dan Stevens, Isla Fisher, and Leslie Mann, this aggressively underwritten farce is dated in all the wrong ways, serving as a throwback to a kooky comedy style that's thoroughly out of fashion.
Judi Dench is clearly relishing the opportunity to let loose, but the script gives her and her co-stars very little to work with, ensuring this is a whole lot of ham without much in the way of actual fun.
One can imagine the cast had a good time making it, though that sadly doesn't transpire through enough to the movie itself.
