The social media s***storm began on the show's red carpet as host Jenna Bush accidentally called the movie Hidden Figures "Hidden Fences", clearly confusing it with Denzel Washington's Fences, another black-centric movie in contention this year.

Things got even more perversely bizarre later on when Michael Keaton accidentally repeated the screw-up himself while introducing Octavia Spencer for her role in the film.

While some might suggest it's an easy enough mistake to make, the fact it was made twice about two high-profile "black movies" has been unsurprisingly read-into by many, which given the hand-wringing about diversity in awards shows over the last few years, has a not-so-pleasant implication about Hollywood as a whole.
