1. Man of Steel

And here's the big one. I very nearly put this film in the number two spot...but then the new trailer hit. Needless to say, I was blown away! Man of Steel is an important superhero film really. It is almost on the same plane as Batman Begins. Both Superman and Batman had their reputations tarnished by awful and average films in the late 90s and early 00s. But Batman Begins proved that even the most embarrassed crusader can still resurface with style. And, even if Superman wasn't tarnished nearly as badly as Batman, there's a lot of demand for Zack Snyder to rescue the man of steel. As a fairly young writer, I can tell you that Superman's legacy doesn't mean a lot to me. I didn't grow up with the excellent Superman films of Christopher Reeve's day. I missed that. To me the character seems like a silly superhero caricature. The only thing that could have given me some interest in my lifetime was Superman Returns. We all know that that film didn't do a very good job of pushing the character back into the public eye. Superman is becoming a relic of public consciousness and there is a lot of pressure on Snyder to deliver. As someone who thoroughly enjoyed Watchmen, I can tell you that I have faith in Snyder. However, acclaim for Snyder has been up-and-down over the last few years and critics didn't quite share my love of Watchmen universally. Snyder has massive vision; let's hope a solid script from David S. Goyer and the producer oversight of Batman's Chris Nolan help keep the film grounded in a relatable reality. Based on what I've seen in the new trailer, it's could be truly incredible! Expected rating: 9/10 Man of Steel comes out June 14th 2013
