18. Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die
Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die is one of the most brilliantly imaginative films of the year and a serious return to form for filmmaker Gore Verbinski - a ludicrously entertaining time travel comedy with an ever-terrific Sam Rockwell leading a superb ensemble cast.
But even with this, strong reviews, and an impressively low $20 million budget considering its high-concept premise, Verbinski's film still tanked at the box office, grossing just $10 million globally.
This can be attributed to a few factors - a mediocre marketing campaign which failed to capitalise on the film's bonkers setup, distributor Briarcliff Entertainment's poor box office track record, and a crowded release weekend which saw it fighting for oxygen with Wuthering Heights, Crime 101, Goat, and Cold Storage.
Time will surely vindicate the film as a "why the hell did this flop?" cult classic, but it's a damn shame that Verbinski's outstanding comeback didn't get to have its cake and eat it too.
