21 Things Horror Movies Ruined For Every One

13. Hotels/Motels

Notable offenders: Psycho (1960), The Shining (1980), 1408 (2007), The Innkeepers (2011) Once again Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho comes into the conversation. This time we thank him for making the majority of us absolutely terrified of isolated motels on the side of the road. Thanks to the forever creepy exploits of Norman Bates and his "mother" it's safe to say that we haven't looked at a Motel 6 in the same way since. And Stanley Kubrick's The Shining also comes back into the picture. The film, of course, taking place almost entirely at the isolated Overlook Hotel. We got to see Jack Nicholson slowly lose his marbles as the Hotel is almost a character onto itself who was encouraging him to do so. They say that all good hotels tend to lead people to do things they wouldn't necessarily do at home. And in a horror movie that can never lead to anything good.
