14. Tiny Tie Fighter

Again, in the unending quest for total knowledge, we get pre-effects shots like this, confirming what everyone should already have known - that the Tie Fighter sequences were achieved using miniatures - but again, the revelation ends up being reductive. Like any film laden with effects, the joy should be in the spectacle, and not in the intricate details of how the shots were achieved, particularly when it means finding out the dogged little fighters were propelled around on sticks.
13. Tiny Tauntaun

And following on from the revelation that George Lucas tricked us all with the use of tiny Tie Fighters on sticks is this pre-effects shot of a tiny Tauntaun, which horrifyingly confirms that Lucas and Co never actually specially bred the creatures for use in the films. Unless those men - including the pretty creepy looking gentleman on the left of shot - are in fact giants. Again, more seriously, this is the case of the visible puppeteer, where being able to see the strings, or the false bottom in the magician's top hat is devastating for the magic of the shot. Set still fans might clamour for this sort of revealing material, but it's hard to enjoy special-effects-laden movies as much when you know exactly how the shots were achieved.
