8. The Grim Reality Of Extras

When you get into the acting business, there are some pre-established ideas of what you can expect: you will become rich and famous, you will enjoy the adulation of the masses, and you will get the chance to play a part of sagas like Star Wars that will transcend the usual boundaries of cinema and become something bigger and bolder altogether. For this group of extras, who bulked out the Rebel fighter forces, the first two were probably far from the truth, but the third was a very real achievement. They should be considered Gods among extras for getting that opportunity, and this shot, which uncovers the unglamorous reality of being an extra better than a Ricky Gervais sitcom, is hugely at odds with that image.
