24 Greatest Euro Cult Screen Sirens

12. Dagmar Lassander

Dagmar Lassander 1 Dagmar Lassander was a stunning beauty in her hey day. She was born in Prague to a French father and Chilean-German mother. She began her career as a costume designer for the Berlin Opera but she was quickly plucked for Euro Horror acting stardom. Dagmar starred in several Gialli, including The Iguana With the Tongue of Fire and Forbidden Photos of a Lady Above Suspicion. I think that her finest hour was in the 1969 film Femina Ridens (The Frightened Woman) in which she is tortured by a woman hating psychopath but gets the last laugh in the end. It is an intensely groovy film with Dagmar doing a kinky little dance to the fantastic 60s music clad only in bandages! What a woman!

11. Sylvia Kristel

Sylvia Kristel Known as the official Emmanuelle, Sylvia Kristel was a beautiful Dutch actress who positively exuded sexual charisma. She was a model at the age of 17 and she spoke many different languages including English, Dutch, Italian, French and German. In 1973, she won the Miss TV Europe crown and this primed her for stardom. Sylvia starred as the notorious Emmanuelle - a bored diplomat's wife - in 1974. It was a softcore film directed by Just Jaecklin and it broke box office records, becoming one of the most successful French films ever made. Sylvia would go on to feature in many sequels to Emmanuelle as well as other bawdy films such as Lady Chatterley's Lover which capitalised upon her sex bomb image. Kristel released a book detailing her many troubled relationships with men as well as her battle with substance abuse. Sadly, she passed away in 2012 as a result of lung cancer (she was a lifelong heavy smoker).

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
