Frank Sobotka is one of the most memorable figures in The Wire, despite only appearing in season two and leading one of its arguably less popular narrative strands the story of the docks and the trade unions. Chris Bauer, who plays the overweight union leader of Polish heritage superbly, captures his personal and professional ambiguities with aplomb. Yet Bauer was nowhere near the required shape for a hefty middle-aged dockworker. As such, he wore a fat suit throughout the entirety of the second season though you certainly wouldnt know it to look at him!
