You would assume Daniel Craig jumped at the opportunity to play Bond. In reality, he turned down Casino Royale for over a year, as he was worried about the physical demand for the role. Craig's concerns were valid since he was repeatedly injured throughout his tenure as Bond. In his first film, Craig lost his two front teeth in the first fight scene. His dentist had to fly from London to Prague to replace them.

Although Casino Royale was physically demanding, Craig said it was “a walk in the park” compared to Quantum of Solace. While shooting one scene, Craig hurt his shoulder so badly, he required six surgical screws to fix it. He also lost his fingertip during one of the fight scenes. Because of a writer's strike, Craig was forced to write some of the scenes himself, which he hated.

Thankfully, follow-up Skyfall received critical acclaim and grossed a staggering billion dollars. Craig was so happy with Skyfall, he saw it as a perfect opportunity to end his run on a high.

Unfortunately, he was contracted to star in the sequel, SPECTRE. Craig suffered severe injuries to his shoulder and knees while working on the film, and infamously said he would rather "slash [his] wrists" than reprise the role.

The next film in the franchise, No Time to Die, will be Craig's final performance as Bond after playing the character for 14 years, which is longer than any other actor.
