30 Horror Movie Survivors Who Probably Wished They'd Died

17. Audition - Shigeharu Aoyama

Trauma is something that a lot of older horror movies don't always make that much effort to address, with many survivors not being seen again after their escape. Some sequels, such as 2018's Halloween, make more of an effort to address PTSD, but generally, the aftermath of these brutal events isn't really shown.

For example, 1999's J-Horror masterpiece Audition ends with protagonist Shigeharu Aoyama (Ryo Ishibashi) being saved from his murderous new girlfriend Asami (Eihi Shiina) by his son, and the viewers never see the aftermath of Shigeharu's ordeal. Nevertheless, it's sobering to imagine how he would've been after this.

After all, Shigeharu had just been viciously tortured in what could just be cinema's most horrendous torture sequence, and if his son hadn't arrived home in time, Shigeharu would've died a painful death. He'll also have been left physically disabled by the attack, as his foot was cut off with piano wire. Furthermore, this is another case of a character being re-traumatized, as he'd already lost his wife to an undisclosed illness seven years before the main events of the story.

Poor guy.
