30 Horror Movie Survivors Who Probably Wished They'd Died
11. The Killing Of A Sacred Deer - Steven Murphy & His Family
This gloriously nasty horror tragedy from Yorgos Lanthimos presents a scenario that is, simply put, every parent's worst nightmare.
Steven (Colin Farrell), a surgeon, forms a correspondence with the son of one of his late patients, a strange kid named Martin Lang (Barry Keoghan). As it turns out, Martin's intentions are anything but benevolent, as he blames Steven for the death of his father during surgery and has cursed Steven's wife and children with a deadly wasting disease. The only way to cure them is to kill one of them; otherwise, all three of them will die.
Eventually, despite all his efforts to lift the curse in other ways, Steven has to follow through with Martin's demands. He incapacitates the members of his family, blindfolds himself, and spins around in a circle with a gun before shooting, in order to randomize the outcome. Through this method, he eventually kills his son Bob (Sunny Suljic).
No parent would ever be able to get over having to kill their own child, and the experience will have inflicted untold devastation upon Martin's wife (Nicole Kidman) and daughter (Raffey Cassidy), too. Both of them had repeatedly tried to persuade Steven to kill one of the others instead of them. Put it this way: it's unlikely this family unit remained intact for long afterwards.
