30 Horror Movie Survivors Who Probably Wished They'd Died

9. Weapons - All Of The Children

Weapons
Warner Bros.

Weapons, a strong contender for the best horror movie of 2025 - and that's saying a lot, as that was one of the best years for horror ever - has one of those immensely bittersweet endings that mixes triumph and tragedy to thought-provoking effect. The villain of the piece is dispatched, but she leaves behind plenty of devastation in her wake.

In Weapons, 17 children from the same classroom run off into the night and disappear. Where did they go? Well, a wickedly evil witch named Gladys (Amy Madigan, Oscar-worthy) bewitched them all to run into her basement and stay there. She's also bewitched the parents of young Alex (Cary Christopher), and she blackmailed Alex into taking some stuff from his classroom that allowed her to enchant the other children.

Eventually, during the movie's insane climax, Alex cleverly uses Gladys' magic against her and sets the children on her. They literally tear Gladys apart limb from limb, but tragically, this doesn't undo her spell. The children, as well as Alex's parents, remain in a state of catatonia, which is bloody depressing.

It is mentioned by the narrator that some of the children eventually began to speak again, but this is a grim outcome for them, whichever way you cut it.
