30 Horror Movie Survivors Who Probably Wished They'd Died
25. Spiral - Detective Ezekiel Banks
In the Saw franchise, most of the people who get involved in the sick games of Jigsaw and his various apprentices have themselves done terrible things, making it harder to feel especially sorry for them. Ezekiel Banks (Chris Rock) is a different kettle of fish.
He might've been a bit brash and tiresome, but Banks was a fundamentally decent man. Unlike many of his fellow cops, he respected the law and tried to do the right thing, as he proved when he turned in a fellow cop who killed a witness years earlier. Sadly, Ezekiel's honesty leads him right to the Jigsaw copycat who's now terrorizing the police force.
It turns out that the killer (Max Minghella) is actually the son of the witness who was killed, and he's identified Ezekiel as a potential accomplice. Ezekiel isn't a psychopathic killer and will have none of it, as he tries to do the decent thing to the very end. And though he escapes with his life, Banks is no doubt going to be a broken man going forward.
Ezeikiel Banks failed to capture the new killer, he learned that many people he trusted - a close friend, his police captain, his own father - were all corrupt cops, and all of those people were violently killed, with his father (Samuel L Jackson) being gunned down right in front of him.
