Scream has proved to be a consistently strong franchise over the years, not least because many different villains have worn the Ghostface mask, meaning that these movies haven't become stale like many other horror series have. 2022's Scream legacy sequel was extremely solid overall - perhaps not the best in the series, but it did have quite possibly the most entertaining killer motivations. 

The killers turn out to be Amber (Anora's Mikey Maddison) and Richie (The Boys' Jack Quaid) and, in an absolute masterstroke, they are revealed to be toxic fans of the Stab Franchise (the films within films based on the events of each movie). Dissatisfied with the most recent instalment, they're enacting a new series of Ghostface murders so that a new Stab film can be made, one more in line with their vision. 

This was such a brilliant bit of commentary on toxic fandoms, an issue that couldn't be more topical right now. In an era where the internet has been plagued with moronic, bullying fans, it was ever so satisfying to see this flick giving such people the finger. Another lovely touch was that it's mentioned that the controversial recent Stab movie was directed by the "Knives Out guy", so this was evidently a reference to the ridiculous online debating over The Last Jedi and a well-judged shot at Star Wars fans.
