30 Perfect Horror Scenes Of The 2020s
25. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice - Right Here Waiting
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice was an unexpectedly awesome legacy sequel, one in which director Tim Burton was allowed to really be himself and run riot, unleashing his unique personal style in all of its Gothic, campy glory.
There are many wonderful little bits throughout the film, including a corpse reassembling itself to the tune of Bee Gees 'Tragedy' and a razor-sharp homage to Carrie, but nothing beats this little nugget of gold from early on in the film. After her first reunion with Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton), Lydia Deetz (Winona Ryder) manages to get herself back to the realm of the living, and she's now back in the attic of her old family home, which includes the model of the town that featured prominently in the original.
Yet, Lydia hears something and she looks down to see... a small Beetlejuice sitting on a model tombstone, serenading her with Richard Marx's 'Right Here Waiting'. Sinister, spooky, weirdly sweet and hysterically funny all at the same time, this is the most Tim Burton moment imaginable, and it's the kind of creative, idiosyncratic filmmaking that'll fill you with light.
Never change, Tim. Never change.
