4 Unlikely Film Production Companies

1. WWE Studios

Unlike every other production company on this list, WWE is the only one to not have anything good to its name. For decades WWE has been the finest purveyor of greased up men fighting. Wrestling goes completely over my head, but proves consistently popular, raking in millions in TV rights, merchandising and, from 2006 at least, film. Most have probably never heard of WWE Studios, which is thankful as their output has been a putrid mess, existing solely to provide vehicles for their premier wrestlers. Their first, See No Evil is a dire horror starring muscle box Kane as a killer who hunts down delinquent teenagers for the most lurid of reasons. Full of stereotypes (most humorous being Tyson, with every word out of his mouth a racial generalisation) and an ending so predictable to call it a twist is disrespectful to scriptwriting, the film is an exercise in how not to do a horror film. In the past couple of years, their output has expanded to include action films and even dramas, drawing in big names like Danny Glover, but still maintaining a rather terrible quality. The entire enterprise strikes as incredibly contemptuous, existing not to provide entertainment, but just to get more money out of the wrestling loving crowd. However, it€™s hard to hold a complete dislike of the company; one of their first co-productions was The Scorpion King. No WWE Studios, then no Dwayne Johnson.
