5 Films Nominated For Razzies In 2015 That Really Aren't That Bad
2. Pixels
Adam Sandler has a terrible reputation, but it's completely justifiable. The man turns in sub-par, lowest (or perhaps even lower) common denominator movies which he's admitted are essentially excuses to go on holiday with his friends. It's unclear what happened over the years, but judging from his recent output, the man just stopped trying - The Ridiculous 6, Blended, the Grown-Ups movies - the list goes on. Yet with Pixels, it actually looked like Sandler was putting more than his usual 10% into a role. How could he not? The premise, which sees aliens attacking us with representations of our own video game characters, is unique and enjoyable. He gets to roll around in a cool jumpsuit firing guns and beating the sh*t out of Donkey Kong. Any actor would find it hard not to enjoy that. No more do we see Sandler actually putting some effort into the movie than during the aforementioned action sequences, which are actually - whisper it now - fun. That's right, Pixels is actually a good time, for all its ridiculousness and basic humour. But it makes all the difference that Sandler doesn't look bored this time around. Even the video game characters are treated with a certain amount of respect... apart from poor Q*bert, who pisses himself and eventually turns himself into a woman so that Josh Gad can have sex with him(!?). But the less said about that, the better.
