2. The Expendables
Right Wing? The Expendables franchise is a blatant celebration of the patriotic, no nonsense macho cinema doled out to right wing audiences in the Reagan years. It has gathered countless conservative stars (Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Chuck Norris, Mickey Rourke, etc.) and let them go showing their skills to a new generation of movie goers. The stories are always extremely violent and always come down to good versus evil. The Expendables are usually freeing people from evil dictators and giving them a taste of pure individualism. They are all men of war thrown away by an unpatriotic society to use their skills elsewhere in the fight against evil abroad. It's really the ultimate conservative franchise for fans who just can't wait for more Rockys, Rambos, Die Hards, etc. They are appropriately sold as "old school" action films that choose to shy away from the new wussy heroes of today that look like they're not old enough to shave and choose not to bring in themes that complicate the good versus evil meme too much.
Anymore? The Expendables 3 is as inevitable as the sun going down tonight and coming up the next morning. There are already plenty of casting rumors that mention everyone from Jackie Chan to Wesley Snipes to Clint Eastwood to Nicolas Cage for some reason. There was also a brief mention about a possible television series not too long ago. May these old cats get one more go 'round before one of them croaks or ends up in a wheelchair.
