Right Wing? Next to Rocky, Dirty Harry is perhaps the ultimate right wing film. As the left wing politicians of America began emphasizing criminal's rights above victim's, Dirty Harry hit theaters and became an ultimate male fantasy for right wingers fed up with a growing bureaucratic system that no longer had everyday people's best interests in mind. Dirty Harry spit in the face of authority and laughed at a weakening justice system. He hit the streets and got the job done. He cut through the grey and saw good and bad and extinguished the bad. He had no time for self pitying fools (suicidal victim in the first film) or ambitious politicians. Through five films, Dirty Harry was a hero for Republicans even inspiring Ronald Reagan to use a line from Sudden Impact in a speech threatening Democrats. Dirty Harry was and is the ultimate male conservative hero. He is a complete individual who ignores the fluff of government and does what needs to be done.
Anymore? Clint Eastwood has flatly stated that there will be no sixth Dirty Harry. However, even at 82, fans still want one more from a gracefully aging Eastwood. There was a scrapped video game that may be revived one day and Eastwood's Gran Torino is viewed by many as an unofficial sequel or, at least, a film cut from the same cloth as the great Dirty Harry films.
