1. He's Done The Full Bond Arc
Mendes didn't just offer Craig an opportunity to go introverted though. With Skyfall he actually gave him the culmination of his arc as Bond. When we're first introduced to the 21st Century's 007 he's just got his digits, is sent out on his first mission and suffers great emotional trauma in situations his predecessors would have brushed off with a quip ("Oh balls"). He's young, inexperienced and can't cope. Quantum Of Solace sees this furthered as he goes off book, embroiled in an adventure where he's on the run from MI6. Or whatever - nobody cares about that one. What's important is that come Skyfall he's the old guard - a top level agent who's seemingly past his prime in a dying institution. This is why Spectre was such an overwhelming task - where do you go after that? The answer appears to be into a modern recreation of classic Bond elements, running with things that were raised in Skyfall's final act. That does look to be shaping up to be a great lead-in, but once that's done the only direction is repetition. Even Connery couldn't make it past S.P.E.C.T.R.E.'s big reveal. Craig's tenure has already seen him cover all elements of the character, meaning that while more adventures could be written and more stunts worked, they'd always be extending the character rather than building him. Put simply, there's nowhere else to go. Should Craig leave Bond after Spectre? Or do you want to see him around for years to come? Share your opinion down in the comments.
