5 Reasons Why Skyfall Might Be The Best James Bond Film Ever
4. Predominantly British Locations In a year when the attention of the world is focussing on Britain, James Bond returns home for a predominantly British set tale. Although the film features international locations in Istanbul, Turkey and Shanghai, China, it would appear that much of the film takes place on location in London with the climax of the film in the Highlands of Scotland. Over the past few months, the production has been spotted at venues across the capital ranging from Southwark and Whitehall to Canary Wharf, Charing Cross and Greenwich. Scenes will include a car chase through the narrow streets of the city, a major set-piece on the London Underground and Javier Bardem disguised as a Metropolitan Police Officer. Surprisingly when you consider 007 has always been regarded as a quintessentially British spy, the films have rarely used the UK for more than office based briefings, the main exception being The World Is Not Enoughs opening boat chase on the River Thames. Generally the films have preferred more exotic locations around the world providing a globe-trotting theme to all that have come before. By setting Skyfall in the UK it brings Bond full circle and allows a more personal element to the story. The Scottish location is reportedly Bonds ancestral home, the Skyfall Lodge at Glencoe, although most of these scenes were actually filmed in Surrey. It is understood that the final scenes of the film will take place here with helicopter gunships, Bardems villain and buildings on fire all sighted during the location shoot back in February this year.
