3. Patricia Sleeps With Bond (So She Won't Lose Her Job) - Thunderball
After a rowdy fight in the first scene of the movie, Bond goes to spa to get some R. and R. Whilst there, he is examined by the beautiful Patricia Fearing. She comes off quite indifferent towards her patient, but Bond doesn't seem to notice (or care). During her examination of his torso, he puts his arms around her and kisses her. She shoves him back and tells him to behave himself. After this, she places Bond on a mechanical stretching machine, which is allegedly good for the spine. She ties him up, puts it on a slow, steady speed, and says she'll be back in 15 minutes. Unfortunately, Bond has many enemies, and one of them anonymously turns up the machine to 5,000. Bond's body and spine are in danger. He screams for help, but passes out. Minutes later, Patricia returns and unties him. He quips that he must now be "six inches taller", and although annoyed, seems healthy enough to walk around. Patricia then recommends the steam room:
Patricia: Spend a few minutes in the steam room. That should help relax you. Might even shrink you back to size. Bond: Somebody's gonna wish today never happened. Patricia: You wouldn't tell Dr. Wayne? Please. I'd lose my job. Bond: Well, I... suppose my silence could have a price. Patricia: You don't mean...
So now two are going into the steam room. Does anyone else feel that this is just wrong? It falls along that creepy line of reasoning used in situations like this, of that "I do something for you, you do something or me"-type stuff. It'S not just unsettling that if she didn't sleep with him he would say something, but he's not even taking into account the machine incident isn't her fault in the slightest. Furthermore, if Bond is physically fit enough to suggest what he is suggesting, then he is fine, and wouldn't have to complain to Dr. Wayne anyway. He wanted her earlier, and she outright refused him. Then he caught her in a bad position and, with the threat of unemployment, got what he wanted. Creepy.
