1. We Have Lift Off, Charlie Brown

The image of Snoopy atop his kennel with his flying hat and goggles adorning his head and scarf flapping in the wind is one of the most iconic in the history of comics, television and film. But did you know that the first time this bizarre spectacle was ever recorded was during It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown? According to Snoopy historians (such a thing exists) the idea was presented to the strips creator Schulz by his son Monte who was a World War II enthusiast. Both Monte and his father thought it would be an absolute hoot to have Snoopy adopt this persona at times and so a legend was born. So popular was Snoopy the Flying Ace in fact that NASA adopted the image for use as a good luck charm for their pilots and the crew of the APollo 10 mission even took a painting of Snoopy as his alter ego into orbit with them to help them on their way. This is an absolute testament to how much of an iconic figure the character of Snoopy - a wise ass Beagle - has become in American culture.
