The 2004 Thomas Jane-starring Punisher movie doesn't exactly have a great reputation. However, despite underperforming at the box office, the powers that be still felt compelled to move ahead with a sequel after the film's release. Jane was ready to return as Frank Castle and Jonathan Hensleigh signed on to direct again. A script was in place that was said to be more true to the comics, featuring the villain Jigsaw. But Hensleigh soon dropped out and the project never got a decent creative team in place. In 2007, Marvel replaced all the main players and the project became the underwhelming reboot Punisher: War Zone instead of a sequel. What's it going to take to get a proper Punisher movie made?
