50 God-Tier Acting Moments Buried in Bad Movies

5. Kristen Stewart - Spencer

Once upon a time, the world thought Kristen Stewart was a terrible actress thanks to the Twilight movies. Well, that opinion sure as hell aged like milk.

In the years since being freed from the shackles of Bella Swan, Stewart has revealed just what a force of nature she actually is in front of the camera. Her best work so far? This mesmerizing turn as Princess Diana in 2021's Spencer, directed by Pablo LarraĆn.

Not only does Stewart provide an uncannily convincing impersonation, complete with a remarkably good English accent, but she also gives a heartbreaking and haunting portrayal of the troubled, lonely princess. At the time, this was easily the greatest on-screen portrayal of the late Princess of Wales, and even if Elizabeth Debicki's performance in The Crown has perhaps surpassed it, this remains a masterpiece of a performance that arguably deserved to win the Best Actress Oscar that year. Jessica Chastain was very good in The Eyes of Tammy Faye, but she wasn't on Stewart's level.

As for Spencer itself, it's a difficult movie to engage with. Though its art-house approach to a biopic is admirable to a degree, it's ultimately a bit of a pretentious, airless mess. There are amusingly kooky moments, such as Diana eating her own pearls and interacting with the ghost of Anne Boleyn, but for the most part, this is very much a case of Stewart elevating otherwise flat and boring material.
