50 Huge Movie Characters That Were Completely Miscast
45. Jude Law As Albus Dumbledore - Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald
When Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was released in 2016, it felt as though it was only a matter of time until a young Albus Dumbledore was brought to screens, and there was naturally a lot of excitement around it.
However, the character that was portrayed in both The Crimes of Grindelwald and The Secrets of Dumbledore didn't feel anything close to the beloved Hogwarts head teacher from either the Harry Potter films or the novels. Part of that comes from the casting of Jude Law.
The man is a fine actor, but he simply should not have been put in the shoes of Dumbledore. He lacked the eccentricity and the authority that made Albus Dumbledore who he was, as well as his warmth and his playful side. Instead, the filmmakers should have done everything possible to get Jared Harris, an outstanding actor and son of the original Dumbledore, Richard Harris, into the role.
In fairness, it would be unfair to point at Jude Law as the sole reason why Dumbledore just didn't feel like Dumbledore. The writing alone prevented such a thing, as well as the fact that he wore dapper three-piece suits in favour of the flowing robes he is typically seen wearing around Harry Potter's time at Hogwarts.
