50 Infuriating Horror Movie Characters We All Secretly Wanted To Die

6. Army Of The Dead - Kate Ward

It seemed like most were on the same page here. Kate Ward (Ella Purnell) was one of those movie characters who pissed off pretty much everyone, and she seemed to be waving her middle finger at viewers all the way through.

First off, from the beginning, she was a whiny and jarring character who had a groan-worthy family drama subplot with her far more likable dad, protagonist Scott (Dave Bautista), but it gets worse. She goes into the zombie-infested Las Vegas with her father and his team because she wants to find a friend of hers who's stuck in there, and she keeps on making maddeningly stupid choices that get the other, vastly more likable characters killed.

Worst of all, at the end of Army of the Dead, Kate runs off on her own to find Geeta (Huma Qureshi), the missing woman, and the others have to delay their escape to go and rescue her. This leads to the deaths of everyone. Everyone except, you guessed it, Kate. All those characters, including her own father and even Geeta, die in a helicopter crash because of Kate's selfishness, yet she gets to be the only survivor?! Horror movie endings don't get much more insulting than this.

None of the blame should be attributed to Ella Purnell, who did the very best with the terrible material she was given. The truth is, Kate was a character so catastrophically bad that no actor could've saved her.
