38. Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again
It would be easy to sneer at the success of the first Mamma Mia movie, given the perception that it was saccharine slush aimed at middle-aged audiences and the general opinion of pop culture musicals in the mainstream, but the original made more than $600m worldwide for a reason.
The follow-up sees a look into the past as Amanda Seyfried's Sophie announces she's pregnant and that she believes she'll struggle to do it alone, prompting family friends Tanya and Rosie (and her three fathers) to tell the story of how Donna (Meryl Streep) coped with being young, single and pregnant.
It would probably be foolish to expect anything but another slice of the same infectious charm and (occasionally iffy) musical numbers, and while most of the good songs have now been used, we're being promised more from the ABBA back-catalogue. And as it's at least partly a prequel, we shouldn't get too much of Pierce Brosnan's singing this time, which is clearly a positive.
