50 Most Anticipated Movies Of 2022

12. Lightyear

Lightyear Film
Pixar

Tempting though it is to groan at the idea of a Toy Story spin-off, Lightyear actually boasts a pretty damn inspired premise, depicting the real space ranger, Buzz Lightyear, upon whom the iconic toy is based.

Chris Evans will voice the real Buzz in what just might be one of the most visually stunning animations Pixar has yet produced. Studio vet and three-time Oscar winner Pete Docter has written the script, so it's incredibly easy to be optimistic about this one.

Given that the trailer racked up a staggering 83 million views in its first 24 hours, it also seems likely to end up one of the year's highest-grossing films.

Lightyear releases on June 17.

11. Nope

Nope Jordan Peele
Universal

Few directors have built so much buzz with so little information as Jordan Peele has with his upcoming horror film Nope.

We know diddly squat about the plot so far, save for an enigmatic poster which depicts a seemingly menacing, possibly sentient cloud descending upon a small town. Either way, a socially conscious undercurrent is basically guaranteed.

With the film being shot for IMAX by regular Christopher Nolan DP Hoyte van Hoytema, this is clearly going to be a major scaling-up for Peele, while the cast includes Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer, Steven Yeun, and Michael Wincott.

Honestly, it'd be great if Peele just dropped the movie with nothing more than a teaser trailer, and while Universal almost certainly won't allow that, hopefully the marketing will keep things vague.

Nope releases on July 22.
