50 Most Anticipated Movies Of 2022

10. Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse (Part One)

Though audiences have long since tired of movies being split into two parts, it's tough to sniff much at Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse getting the two-parter treatment, given that it's an original story as opposed to a cynical attempt to milk a novel adaptation for more money.

2018's Into the Spider-Verse remains one of the greatest superhero movies of all time, and from the first look trailer released so far, this follow-up seems set to match it.

Plot specifics - including its villain - are still up in the air, but Across the Spider-Verse will focus on Miles (Shameik Moore) and his fellow Spider-Folk teaming up once again to battle a new threat.

It looks fantastic, and given the 2023 release date for Part Two, the filmmakers are presumably already hard at work on the sequel.

Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse (Part One) releases on October 7.

9. The Northman

Robert Eggers (The Witch, The Lighthouse) is one of the most singular genre filmmakers working today, and looks set to take his output to rich new heights with The Northman, a big-budget historical epic following Viking prince Amleth (Alexander Skarsgård) as he seeks to avenge his murdered father.

The first trailer is an absolute face-melter and totally persuades that this is a film best seen on the big screen, what with its moody, surreal visuals and intoxicating soundscape.

It's also got one hell of a cast to boot: Skarsgård is joined by Nicole Kidman, Anya Taylor-Joy, Ethan Hawke, Björk, Willem Dafoe, Kate Dickie, and Ralph Ineson.

The Northman releases on April 22.
