50 Most Anticipated Movies Of 2022

48. Havoc

Tom Hardy Taboo
FX

The Raid director Gareth Evans returns with his first film since 2018's riveting Apostle, helming an action-thriller set in his native Wales as Tom Hardy plays a detective who must battle through the criminal underworld to retrieve a politician's estranged son.

Evans has nothing left to prove as an action filmmaker at this point, but teamed with an actor as physical and intense as Hardy, it's tough not to set expectations through the stratosphere.

As a sweetener, the supporting cast includes the esteemed likes of Forest Whitaker, Timothy Olyphant, and Luis Guzmán, and you won't even need to leave your sofa to see it as it's been produced for Netflix.

Havoc releases on Netflix later this year.

47. The Black Phone

The Black Phone Ethan Hawke
Universal

Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson returns to his horror roots and re-teams with his Sinister star Ethan Hawke for an adaptation of a 2004 short story penned by Stephen King's son Joe Hill.

Hawke stars as a child killer who kidnaps a young boy, Finney Shaw (Mason Thames), and traps him inside his soundproof basement.

However, Shaw uses a disconnected phone in the basement which allows him to converse with the voices of the killer's previous victims, who just might be able to help him escape.

The trailer certainly looks richly atmospheric and Hawke is absolutely giving a sublimely creepy performance. Better yet, the film has already received rave reviews from its Fantastic Fest premiere last year, so the hype seems very much justified.

The Black Phone releases on June 24.
