42. The Pale Blue Eye
Scott Cooper (Antlers) reunites with regular collaborator Christian Bale for a horror-thriller based on Louis Bayard's acclaimed 2006 novel of the same name.
Bale will play a haunted former police detective, Augustus Landor, who is called upon to investigate a murder, and employs a young cadet as his aide, who will later become the legendary author Edgar Allan Poe (Harry Melling).
Better yet, the supporting cast is absolutely stacked, including Gillian Anderson, Lucy Boynton, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Toby Jones, Simon McBurney, Timothy Spall, and Robert Duvall.
With Netflix having paid $55 million to acquire it long before shooting even started, this could very well be an awards player this time next year.
The Pale Blue Eye will release on Netflix later this year.
41. Spaceman
Adam Sandler gives us an artsy movie every couple of years, and his next is set to be Spaceman, adapted from the 2017 novel Spaceman of Bohemia by Jaroslav Kalfař.
Emmy-winning Chernobyl director Johan Renck helms this sci-fi drama about Jakub Procházka (Adam Sandler), an orphan who overcomes tremendous adversity to become the first Czech astronaut.
Sandler will be joined by Carey Mulligan, Paul Dano, Isabella Rossellini, and Kunal Nayyar, in what could absolutely be another Oscar play for Sandler after he was so egregiously snubbed for Uncut Gems two years ago.
Spaceman will release on Netflix later this year.
