50 Most Anticipated Movies Of 2023
48. Chicken Run: Dawn Of The Nugget
The original Chicken Run is one of the most beloved animated films of all time - a wonderfully charming stop-motion romp from the masters over at Aardman, and so it's genuinely surprising that a sequel has taken so long to materialise.
But Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget is finally on track to release on Netflix sometime over the next 12 months.
Though there's been some not insignificant controversy over the decision to recast all the principal leads - Zachary Levi, Thandiwe Newton, Romesh Ranganathan, and Daniel Mays will play Rocky, Ginger, Nick, and Fetcher respectively - it's tough to argue with Aardman's track record for producing quality animated adventures for audiences of all ages.
After Netflix proved such a ripe home for Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio this past year, they may well have become the safe haven for stop-motion films in an era where they sadly don't perform well theatrically.
Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget releases on Netflix sometime in 2023.
47. Argylle
Though Henry Cavill's 2022 had its share of ups and downs, he's next set to star in the latest spy film from Kingsman director Matthew Vaughn.
Based on Elly Conway's yet-to-be-released novel, Argylle revolves around the titular amnesiac spy (Cavill) who is fooled into believing he's a best-selling spy novelist, and when he finds out the truth, embarks on a rampage of revenge.
Apple spent a stonking $200 million to secure the rights to the film, while the cast includes the incredible likes of Sam Rockwell, Bryce Dallas Howard, John Cena, Dua Lipa, Ariana DeBose, Rob Delaney, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O'Hara, and Samuel L. Jackson.
That's... quite the ensemble. The fun of the premise speaks for itself, and given Vaughn's prior success in this arena, it's easy to expect something great here. And if it is a hit, Apple is apparently keen to spin it off into a trilogy.
Agylle releases on Apple TV+ sometime in 2023.
